Wethersfield Airfield Museum, preserving the history of RAF Wethersfield from 1944 to 1990.The museum contains models and other memorabilia relating to the different units that operated from RAF Wethersfield from World War 2 until the end of the Cold War. From World War 2 we feature the USAAF 416th Bomb Group flying A-20 Havocs and RAF 196 and 299 Squadrons flying Mark IV Stirling Bombers.

The Cold War period features the USAF 20th Fighter Bomber Wing which then became the 20th Tactical Fighter Wing with F-84 Thunderjets and more latterly the F-100 Super Sabres. We showcase the last occupants of the base before closure, namely the 819th Civil Engineering Squadron (RED HORSE).

The story of RAF Wethersfield is importantly about the personnel who served at the base and the strong bonds they created with the people of North Essex which continue to this day..
