The Harrington Aviation Museums comprise the
Carpetbagger Aviation and Secret War Museum and the
Northamptonshire Aviation Society Museum.
These museums offer a rare look at life on
this Top Secret base of the 801st/492nd American Eighth Air
Force Bombardment Group during World War 2.
Photographs and exhibits vividly present
details of Operation Carpetbagger and the secret war carried out
by the British Special Operations Executive (SOE) and the
American Office of Strategic Services (OSS) in supplying
resistance groups in Occupied Europe with weapons, equipment and
secret agents from both Harrington and Tempsford airfields
during World War 2; The Thor IRBM nuclear armed rockets that
were at Harrington during the 1959-63 Cold War period; The
history of the Harrington airfield; The Royal Observer Corps
from its inception in 1925 through to it's stand down in 1991;
Air war and the Home Front in Northamptonshire along with other
items of similar interest.
